Quizlet Video Tutorial
The Flash Card. In this age of digital literacy, the mere utterance of the words flash cards may be akin to mutiny.
Clearly positioned as a stark juxtaposition, is my own recollection of the value of the infamous flash card. When I reflect back on my own education in the mid-1980′s I seem to remember a barrage of flash cards! There were flash card for multiplication, vocabulary, and science! As an adult, I remember carefully drafting a pristine set of flashcards when I studied for the GRE. These flashcards were the pathway to memorization and recall of facts that I needed to know. With that being said, I wonder if the abandonment of flash card use is reflective of waning effectiveness or more so their low tech appearance as an unfortunate second-rate instructional tool.
Quizlet seems to stand in firm agreement with my notions and possible adoration of The Flash Card. Quizlet offers students the opportunity to use flash cards in a digital format. The same repetition is available to students, but through a medium that is much more appealing, familiar, and accessible. For teachers, this free service is assessible and easy to use. There are links for the students to visit and embed codes for those with wikis or websites.
