Edmodo Teach-nology Series: Student Reactions
I published Part I of the Edmodo series a few weeks ago. While I have not made Part II yet, I did want to share some of the student feedback. I have just begun using Edmodo with my American Literature students. I must say that I am quite impressed. While a custom classroom website will always a staple of my classroom tools, I can see how Edmodo could stand alone as the only Internet based version of a class. My students really enjoy the features and seem excited to interact on the site. One student called the site “bangin’”. Yes, words like wow have been used to describe the site. I am hard pressed to remember the last time that teenagers openly referred to an instructional tool with such vigor.
I have used the site to post links and share media with my students. What I am most impressed with is the ability for students to submit their work electronically. Much more diverse than a submission tool such as email, this function provides me with the opportunity to offer feedback, make attachments, share links, and post grades to the students. They have the chance to attach multiple revisions as well.
I am even considering how this could be used to store data. I am considering allowing students to make submissions of their work and not grade it, but allow them to simply store the work there. This would allow Edumodo to function as a temporary cloud storage tool for student work. This would eliminate the need for a flash drive or access to the school network to save data.
